With rising rent costs, some tenants are seeking to pay rent in two or more payments per month. Often renters want to make rent payments on payday rather than the traditional once a month payment.

Most leases require full rent payment on or around the first of each month. If a renter wants a different payment arrangement, they may negotiate with their landlord. Ideally, the renter’s payment schedule will be in writing in the lease. For example, if a renter wants to pay half of their monthly rent on the 1st and the second half on the 15th, the renter can ask the landlord to agree to the payments in writing and adjust the lease to allow these types of payments.
