During an audit, expert advising can help you respond to inquiries from the Department of Revenue or Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

The IRS may settle your tax debt for less than you currently owe if you are experiencing a financial hardship that prevents you from paying your full tax bill or if there are other extenuating circumstances. You can find more information on the IRS website, including the IRS Form 656 that you must fill out to apply for an Offer in Compromise (OIC).

If your partner controlled family finances and did not pay all family taxes, resulting in a tax bill you cannot pay when you are separating, you may qualify for relief. You can file for help from the IRS using Form 8857.
